Leann is a First-grader who has a lot of questions about who she is and what happened to her in the past. Why does the tall stranger know that her dog, Tip, knows how to shake hands? She lives on a sheep and wheat farm near the small Midwestern town of Dolby. The mystery deepens when Leann finds an unfinished baby dress under her mom’s bed. Tip and Leann are about the same age. Wanda Meyers, her mother, never directly answers questions about where the dog came from or why the baby dress isn’t finished. Leann has dreams about being carried to a large department store perfume counter. In another dream she is picked up from snow after surviving an airplane crash. Will Leann discover the truth about her past or will these questions remain unanswered for the rest of her life? You won’t close the pages on this debut novel until it is read from beginning to end.
Laura A. Hansen is a freelance writer who grew up on a sheep and wheat farm. Her book, Wink at the Devil, vividly describes this way of life, the best there is for a young girl. The author loved being outside, getting dirty, and taking care of animals. She attended public grade school in a small town and had to ride a school bus to get there. Laura belonged to a 4-H club, which is a program to teach agriculture skills, self-improvement, and ways to become involved in the community. During her senior year in high school, she was president of the Future Homemakers of America and had previously won that organization’s Homemaker of Tomorrow award. The author’s hobbies include gardening, art, and reading a good book. Laura became a wife, mother, and nurse after graduating from high school but tried to always have a pet, preferably a cat.
