When a retired schoolmarm, Mz. Bee, decides to toil as a tour guide, she wanders about with four young companions, Druker Dragon Fly, Ernie Ant, Dot Lady Bug, and Wee Worm. The four discover the elements of nature differently than most because Mz. Bee combines education with sightseeing and adventurous activities. This way, her little readers can discover their own ways of relating to the natural world while also developing a respect and a caring attitude for the environment. Throughout most of history and in most places, children have had the freedom to play, explore, and interact with the world around them. Often, the first choice is to run to a playground, the woods, or maybe to a waterway or simply to a big tree. Children today, though, have fewer opportunities to be out in nature enjoying free play and many are living sedentary lives. But their curiosity remains. So, how can we connect children with the natural world so they can actively discover and explore the way children used to? Mother Nature and Mz. Bee and The Mz. Bee Book Series aim is to do just that.
