The future of B&A Pharmaceuticals looks bright as initial regulatory approvals to market a blockbuster drug for treatment of Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder in women are within sight. Weeks before successful completion of the final clinical research study, a physician, who is studying the efficacy and safety of the investigational drug, and his nurse die in a horrific, single-car crash in southwest England.
Jake Palmer, an independent healthcare investigator, travels to the doctor’s clinic in the County of Cornwall at the request of Dr. David Tomlinson, his friend and former colleague at B&A, to search for an explanation for a worrisome phone call he received from the doctor days before his death. Fiona Collins, a B&A clinical research auditor, accompanies Palmer to conduct a routine audit of the deceased doctor’s research data. Collins believes Palmer’s role is to observe and assist her, assistance she does not need or want. Palmer believes the sooner Collins completes her audit, the sooner he can commence his investigation into the phone call and its possible relationship to the deaths.
Palmer and Collins learn the clinic’s research records are missing and end their unhappy alliance. Collins returns to London to comb through B&A’s research project records while Palmer remains in Cornwall and contacts police inspector Pete Flannigan, who is investigating the crash and suspects foul play. After a clinical research scientist who holds the key to the case is murdered, Palmer and Collins reunite, realizing to succeed they must work together. When Collins is abducted from her home, Palmer sets out on a mission to find her and bring to justice those responsible for her abduction and the deaths. If he fails, thousands of patients’ lives will be at risk, and he will lose the one thing for which he’s been searching.
Jake Palmer, an independent healthcare investigator, is searching for something to fill the void in his life, a void present since he left the U.S. Navy SEALs ten years earlier. Neither his previous work as an attorney nor his endless string of short-term personal relationships filled the indefinable emptiness. When a former colleague at B&A Pharmaceuticals asks Palmer to investigate the deaths of a physician researcher and his nurse in southwest England, he is reluctant but accepts the assignment. He and Fiona Collins, a tenacious clinical research auditor, become entangled in a web of murder, deceit, and ambition that places their lives in danger. After Collins is abducted from her home, Palmer must confront his demons and risk his life to rescue her and bring those responsible to justice, even if it means killing them.
