FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNE 29, 2006- SAVVY TOME
WEAVES STORY OF CUTTHROAT CORPORATE AMERICA, MARRIAGE,
AND MATERIALISM IN THE HEART OF THE MIDWEST
Overdrive is released by author Carmen K. Glenn.
This
confident endeavor by Carmen K. Glenn tells the
stirring story of a young African-American woman
embroiled in the battle between career and family.
The novel begins in September as 35-year-old Victoria
Jackson keeps pace with her corporate coworkers,
husband and house maid and follows her story of
stress and excess in the suburbs. As a rising star
of JDL, a fortune 500 marketing firm, Victoria strives
to become CEO after the resignation of her boss,
hoping to mark the first-ever induction of an African-woman
in the powerful position.
Set in Indianapolis, IN,
the pace of the novel is as fast and furious as
the legendary race born at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway. Victoria’s life is exactly what she’d
hoped: A successful marriage to William, a partner
in a reputable law firm, a more-than promising career
and a beautiful suburban Indianapolis home.
Victoria quickly realizes
that her life isn’t all it seems when she begins
exhibiting symptoms of severe stress. Swept up in
the ever competitive world of power, competition
and materialism, Victoria ignores the signs.
As the competition with a
co-worker ensues, things heat up at home as well
and Victoria finds herself rethinking her marriage
and career goals. Glenn does an exceptional job
at revealing the perspective of each character of
the book, not just its main character. Each character
conveys their particular role in her life and their
reactions to her demands. Glenn invites the reader
to travel this journey with young Victoria and see
if her fast paced life leads to a dead end or another
fork in the road.
